I will not give in to the rain　--雨ニモマケズ

岩手県で生まれ育った詩人、宮沢賢治の代表作「雨ニモマケズ」が、大震災の惨禍の中から立ち上がろうとしている人々へのメッセージとして、広がっているようですね。

私も、英語指導法・教材開発で知られる（株）mpiがyoutubeに掲載している「雨ニモマケズ」の英語版"I will not give in to the rain"の朗読をご紹介いたします。

mpiは、この動画について次のように説明しています。

東北地方出身の宮沢賢治の書いた「雨ニモマケズ」は、
日本人が古くから持つ、自己献身の精神が歌われています。

賢治は詠います。

欲を持たず、決して怒らず、いつも静かに笑い、質素に生きることの大切さ。
東西南北困っている人がいれば、助けに行きたい、だがそれは見返りを期待するものではなく、
自分自身の生き方であり、当たり前で、感謝されることのない、些細なことなのだ。
まるで、誰かの横を吹きぬける空気のように、何も感じてもらえないような、
ただただ平凡で、無私無欲な人になりたいと。

私たちはこの詩を通し、東北人の持つ心の温かさ、芯の強さを世界中の人に届けられたらと願っています。
被災地の復興が一日も早く訪れ、被災地の皆様に一日も早い安心の日々が訪れますように、
私どもも精一杯の支援をさせていただきたいと思っています。

About Kenji Miyazawa and "I will not give in to the rain":

Born in what is now Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, in 1896, Kenji Miyazawa was a Japanese poet, writer and social activist who epitomized the spirit of the people of Tohoku. As such, after his death, his work became much beloved by the people of this beautiful, tough northern part of Honshu, Japan. His ideals of selflessness, stoicism and simplicity are most deeply resonant in this work, "Ame ni mo Makezu" -- one translation of which is, "I will not give in to the rain." This is a poem that most Japanese people know by heart, and has given them courage through many terrible periods of adversity, like those now afflicting the Tohoku region.

mpi inc. has posted this video of "I will not give in to the rain" in the hope that it will help people understand the strength, dignity and giving nature of the people of Tohoku.

We will donate all proceeds from the sales of the book or DVD of Kenji Miyazawa stories and poems called "Gorsch the cellist" to the Japanese Red Cross for the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami relief effort.
